More than $21,300 had been raised on a fundraiser as of Friday morning for a 31-year-old dad of three who was killed in an Upper Macungie shooting spree Wednesday morning.
The gunman, Za Uk Lian, had shot at two other vehicles before shooting Ramon Ramirez, then running from the scene and turning the gun on himself, police said.
Ramirez was taken to Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest, where he was pronounced dead at 5:30 a.m., authorities said.
An initial fundraiser launched by longtime Lehigh Valley resident John D. Miller was removed pending review after raising nearly $5,000.
A Facebook announcement posted by Miller reads:
"Some of you may have noticed the GoFundMe campaign I created for the Ramirez family of Allentown, PA is currently unavailable.
GFM suspended it pending a review of my identity. I have answered all of their questions and provided my contacts within the Ramirez family to verify the legitimacy of the campaign.
I hope this will satisfy their concerns. We are waiting for GFM to complete their review.
At best, they will reactivate the page soon and I will work quickly to dispense ALL of the funds to Mr. Ramirez’s family.
At worst, your donation will be returned to you via the same form of payment used to make it. I hope that’s not the case as Mr. Ramirez’s family will surely need the help.
Thank you for your patience and willingness to help this family during this difficult time. I will provide updates as the situation changes."
